Orison, real name Ofentse Modibedi, is an emcee and producer from Munsieville, Mogale City, situated west of Johannesburg, South Africa.
His journey as an emcee began in 2004 while attending high school. This was after hearing some friends kick free-styles at the back of the class during lunch break.
The early stages of his penmanship were inundated by battle raps which mostly consisted of grimmy bars and torturous flows. An influence drawn from the likes of Vinnie Paz, from Jedi Mind Tricks, and Immortal Technique.
It was only during his tertiary school years, spent in Tshwane studying mechanical engineering, that his writing started taking on a more conscious approach. This he credits to Streets Poets Society (SPS), a campus movement he signed up for at the time.
It was during this period that he coined his purpose in the rap scene; to speak and to address.
During this period, his top influences included Tumi and the Volume (now Stogie T), Talib Kweli/Black star, The Roots, Mawe2, Optical Illusion, Last Days Fam and Common to mention a few. He was attracted to the hardcore truths they addressed, which were poetically delivered and displayed the skill sets he grew accustomed to at SPS.
Orison picked up beat making in 2008, learning from a gifted producer.
His style of production is heavily influenced by Kev Brown, Illmind, Symbolic One, Battle Kat, Jay dilla, Instro, Nyambz and Hi-Tek.
He released his first beat tape project, a collaborative effort with Phiziks called ‘The Soul Echo beat tape vol. 1’ in 2011 followed by vol 2 in 2014
The next project was a solid, 13 track EP as he formed a third of a crew called Mind The Soul. The EP is titled ‘The Village’ and was released in 2016.
All but two songs were produced and engineered by him, guest producers included Phiziks (Right Now; track 11) and MethodiC BeatS (Traces of You; Track 8). The project was a success and the crew was booked to perform at events such as Boombox, Slaghuis, BrownSense Market, Soweto arts and crafts affair to mention a few.
Orison Has recently released his debut, an ep titled ‘In My Nature‘ with ‘How this rap do‘ as the lead single. This ep seeks to explore the man behind the mic and the beats in his inner and outer World.
This ep will host a total of 9 songs.
